Let's Set the Record Straight.
Throughout the years, we've had people tell us that we're hindering hydration by putting caffeine in some of our hydration products.
In our most popular product, 333 Half Evil All-In-One Endurance Fuel, there's 50 mg of caffeine in flavors Lemonade, Raspberry, and Cold Brew. In the original Carborocket Electrolyte Drink you'll find 35 mg of caffeine in Pineapple Mango.
Caffeine is a sensitive subject, and people vary in their personal sensitivity to the stimulant.
For some, caffeine will leave them shaking and push their anxiety through the roof!
Others can down 3 cups of coffee after dinner and get a great night's sleep.
The reason that some people believe caffeine can hinder hydration is due to its mild diuretic effect meaning it can make you pee a bit more. That being said, according to research, drinking caffeine-containing beverages do not cause fluid loss in excess of the volume ingested.
Translation... while caffeinated drinks may make you pee more, they don't appear to increase the risk of dehydration.
That being said, whether caffeine will actually help or hinder your performance depends on how you personally react to it.
Here's our suggestion.
Do an A/B test on yourself.
Go ride/run/swim the same route under the same conditions and use one of our caffeinated products during one training session and a caffeine-free product the next. Pay attention to how you feel and record your times. By doing this, you can see if adding caffeine to your nutrition regimen will help or hinder your performance.
